Malene Alleyne

Clinical Supervisor

Malene Alleyne is a Clinical Supervisor at the University Network for Human Rights. She is an international human rights lawyer and founder of Freedom Imaginaries, a Jamaican non-profit organization that uses human rights law to tackle legacies of colonialism and contemporary forms of oppression. Malene’s work focuses on extractivism at the intersection of human rights and environmental and climate justice. She also works on the protection of migrants’ rights, including through the representation of refugees and asylum seekers in the Americas. Her work includes litigation and advocacy before domestic, regional and international justice mechanisms.

Malene previously served as a human rights specialist at the Executive Secretariat of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights. She holds a Master of Laws degree from Harvard Law School and a Master of Advanced Studies degree from the Graduate Institute of International Studies, Geneva. She received her Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill, and is qualified to practice law in Jamaica and Guyana.
